What is faith?
It is a spiritual gift that is necessary for our salvation. Faith is the first principle of the gospel. It is a hope for things that cannot be seen but are true. (see Hebrews 11:1 & Alma 32:21) Faith is pure power and action, a principle that motivates us each day. A careful study of the scriptures teaches us that faith is “a strong belief of truth within our souls that motivates us to do good”.
Why should we have faith in Jesus Christ?
It is vital that our faith is centered on Jesus Christ. We must trust in Him and His every command. Our faith in Him also includes faith in our Heavenly Father and the Holy Ghost who is sent to help us learn gospel truths and to comfort us in times of need. As we become obedient to Him our Heavenly Father will forgive us of our sins. This forgiveness comes through faith coupled with our obedience.
The Apostle Peter taught that “there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (see Acts 4:12 & Mosiah 3:17). There are many things we are capable of as we have and exercise faith in our Savior Jesus Christ. Personally I have overcome temptations, strong desires and some habits I had formed before coming to know about the Word of Wisdom.
Having faith in Jesus Christ can offer us influence in our Church callings, family relationships as well as friendships, in our jobs…the list goes on.
How can we increase our faith in Jesus?
Study of Him through the scriptures and words of our prophets both past and present. Put into practice the principles He teaches in our day to day life. We must exercise and nurture our faith in Him always. Our faith is also increased as we pray to Heavenly Father in Jesus’ name. As we act on our desire to have faith in Him our faith is increased.
What relationship do you see between your faith and your actions?
This is a question that is answered individually. For me, it has been a relationship of growth as I draw nearer to my Savior and Heavenly Father. this has come as a result of my actions. I have a desire to have and increase my faith in Jesus Christ. I strive to pray daily and attend my weekly church meetings. Not only have I gained an increase in knowledge, but my relationship with Them has become more than I ever thought was possible.
What are some blessings that follow faith?
Prayers are answered. Miracles can occur in our lives. We increase in knowledge and understanding. As a result of my faith, I have received other spiritual gifts. Forgiveness from our sins and transgressions. Most importantly, our eternal salvation.
